Interview Preparation

WOT TO WEAR AND NOT…
First impressions do count and remember we all know looking good and smart gives us confidence.

Dos

Do not’s

Wear something smart, maybe a pair of trousers or a skirt if you don’t have a suit. Make sure it is ironed!

Do not wear your latest fashion outfit.

Wear a sensible pair of shoes (School shoes will do fine!)

Do not wear your latest pair of sneakers and/or high heel fashion shoes.

Make sure your hair is tidy

You are going to an interview NOT a date or a party, so wear your hair smart not fashionable…

Wear a watch – BE SURE TO BE 5 – 10 MINUTES EARLY

Do not wear your latest fashion jewelry

Wear minimal makeup

Do not wear your latest hot red lipstick !!!

IMPORTANT: remember to take a copy of your resume, references and qualifications. It is a good idea to put these in an envelope to keep them clean and presentable.

Interview Preparation
Read up on the company before the interview, here is a checklist to get you started:
  1. How long has the company been in existence?
  2. What are its products or services?
  3. What are its future plans?
  4. What will your job duties include?
  5. Is there an opportunity for promotion?
  6. Who are the key members of the organization?
IMPORTANT PREPARATION
  • Make sure you know how you are getting to the job interview and give yourself sufficient time
  • Keep the contact number and name of interviewer on you, just in case you have to phone them in an emergency.
  • Arrive 5-10 minutes early.
  • Have a list of questions on the company and job with you together with your resume and qualifications. You can keep these with you in the interview.
  • Be polite and respectful to all of the staff you meet prior to the interview and your interviewer.
  • A firm handshake is a good starting point at any meeting!!!

INTERVIEW NERVES
Everyone has nerves and the interviewers actually expect you to have them too. If you prepare correctly, dress smartly and prepare for the interview with researching the company your confidence should come shining through.
